Venus in Fur

Teamonfire Productions is a new fresh voice of English- speaking theatre in Berlin, dedicated to bringing a range of theatre experiences ranging from the well-known to the obscure to collaborative creation, always with a challenging edge and an eye on the truth.

teamonfire’s current project is David Ives’ incisive, riotous and provocative Off-Broadway sensation-to-Broadway hit, “Venus in Fur”.

This one-act, which takes place in real time, is a dynamic power play between Vanda, a struggling actress and Thomas, a first-time director, who auditions her for a role in his own production. As the audition continues through the evening, their real-life relationship begins to mirror the complexities that the play is evoking in them and the stakes get raised to a fever pitch. No matter what you think is going to happen next in this play, your expectations will be thwarted by an ending no one sees coming.

For the English-language premiere of this play in Berlin, teamonfire has teamed up with the crew from the wildly successful Holzmarkt project on Holzmarktstraße and will be presenting in the arches under the S-Bahn in the club Kater Blau.

Monika Gossmann, an alumna of the Moscow Art Theatre and Timothy Hopfner, an alumnus of Workcenter of Jerzy Grotowski and Thomas Richards, play Vanda and Thomas. They have both toured extensively throughout Europe and North America in various media of performance and bring to the stage a wealth and diversity of theatre experience.
